In 2009, Civic Builders launched a new partnership with Hyde Leadership Charter School in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Civic scoured the neighborhood for an appropriate site for Hyde’s high school and secured a vacant lot located at 830 Hunts Point Avenue, around the corner from Hyde’s existing elementary school site.

The completed facility will ultimately house 280 high school students in a three-story, 31,500 square foot structure. The interior will consist of approximately nine core classrooms, a science lab, art room, multipurpose space, weight room, common spaces and administrative offices. The school also enjoys an additional 3,500 square feet of roofplay.

Hyde Leadership Charter School is the only college preparatory school in Hunts Point. Their focus is on creating socially responsible leaders through character development, academic rigor and family renewal. At scale in 2012, Hyde will be a K-12 charter and serve nearly 1,000 students.
The Hyde program is designed with the intention that all of its high school graduates will be accepted into college and be prepared for the intellectual and ethical challenges of college and life beyond. Hyde students consistently demonstrate gains in closing the achievement gap and also outperforms students at peer schools. In addition to the academic goals, Hyde strives for robust student character development, high parent participation rates in its programs and strong family satisfaction.
