Social Entrepreneurship Award, Manhattan Institute
The Manhattan Institute recognized Civic Builders with a Social Entrepreneurship Award, which recognizes innovative nonprofit leaders, independent of government, who have helped students, veterans, and educators achieve success. The award was presented November 4, 2010, in New York City.

Established in 2001, the Manhattan Institute Social Entrepreneurship Initiative is supported by the William E. Simon Foundation and JM Kaplan Fund. Nominations are made by outsiders who have supported the organizations that they nominate. After initial screening by Manhattan Institute staff, ten finalists are chosen by the award program’s selection committee, consisting of leaders from the philanthropic and academic community. Winners are chosen only after a site visit to the program and an extended in-person interview.  Download PDF

Social Capitalist Award, Fast Company/Monitor Group
For the second year in a row, Civic Builders has been awarded a Social Capitalist Award by Fast Company/Monitor Group. The award recognizes outstanding "social entrepreneurial organizations" that use the "disciplines of the corporate world to tackle daunting social problems."

Nearly 300 nonprofits registered for the awards, 45 winners were selected. Participants were evaluated in five categories, including social impact, aspiration and growth, entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability. Judges included Cheryl Dorsey, President of the Echoing Green Foundation; David Gergen, professor at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government; Clara Miller, president and CEO of the Nonprofit Finance Fund; and Trooper Sanders, domestic policy advisor to former President Clinton at the Clinton Foundation.
